This Week In Innovation 3-13-26

There is a ton coming up, so please make sure to look over everything in this week’s email.  A lot of important information, and it could be a bad Friday the 13th if you missed out on anything listed in the following email.

FAFSA Days - The FAFSA days were a huge success.  To all of the families that came, we all say THANK YOU.  I know several families that qualified well into 5 figures.  For all the families that came and completed the process, we will let you know when the $50 gift cards come in.  You will need to come in person to pick them up, and have Cindy and Mr. LaGalo sign off that you did indeed get it.  For families that were not able to participate in FAFSA Days and are able to complete the FAFSA at home, you still have a bit of time.  If you would like to receive a $60 prom ticket, FAFSA applications must be completed by midnight on April 6th.  If you would like to receive the $50 Amazon gift card, FAFSA applications must be completed by midnight on May 8th.

Student Survey and Digital Readiness - Students have begun to take part in the MI Student Perception Survey.  This survey is anonymous and is being conducted throughout the State of Michigan.  Digital Readiness for State testing of the SAT and PSAT is also taking place.  All students are asked to complete these two tasks in The Commons by the end of next week.  A link to the Family Perception Survey is found toward the end of this email.

New Academic Schedule - We are pleased to announce that when we return from spring break, we will be shutting down the gym, game room, and pantry for a half hour, twice a day.  We will be doing this to push standard completion.  From 9am until 9:30am, and then again from 12:00pm until 12:30pm those three rooms will not be accessible to students.  Furthermore, teachers will have specific projects going on during that time.  We have always put a premium on socializing and emotional well being here at IA, but several students need more of an academic push, or they may not graduate on time.

Senior Focus Day - our next senior focus day is Friday, March 27th.  Mentors will be working with seniors on standards completion.  All standards must be completed by Friday, May 8th.  Any seniors who do not complete standards by May 8th must do a 5th year.  Do not let this happen to you!!!

Spring Break - is Monday, March 30th - Friday, April 3rd.  School will resume on Monday, April 6th.  Be safe, and make good memories.

State Testing - will take place the week we return from Spring Break and will run Tuesday, April 7th - Friday, April 10th.  This includes Wednesday of testing week.  SAT testing is Tuesday, April 7th.  WIN Work Readiness is Wednesday, April 8th.  M-STEP is Thursday April 9th and PAST 9 & 10 is Friday, April 10th.  All juniors will take the SAT, WIN and M-STEP along with seniors who did not complete this testing last year.  Freshman and sophomores will test on the 10th.  State testing is a mandatory requirement for graduation here at IA.

Help Celebrate Great Teachers

National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4–8, 2026, and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is celebrating educators throughout the month with its Teacher Appreciation Video Project. Families are invited to submit a 15–30 second video of their student thanking a teacher who has made a positive impact. Videos can easily be recorded on a cell phone and submitted through MDE’s online form. Submissions are being accepted through April 15, 2026. To learn more, please visit https://bit.ly/4rwD0sh.

Reminder: Family Perception Survey Now Open

Families are encouraged to complete the MI Student Voice Family Perception Survey to help our school and the district identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. The anonymous survey takes about 10 minutes and focuses on family satisfaction, student engagement, connection, and belonging. Families with multiple children should respond based on their eldest child (with the option to complete it again for additional children). Please take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the survey at: https://bit.ly/4sEGwlf.
